Runs & Hikes

This part of the website is populated and maintained by me, Erik. As a lifelong runner, I started plotting runs in the region immediately upon arrival. Below I have compiled my favourites so far, as a service for any fellow enthusiast that might visit our house.

Fair warning first - this part of the region is butting up against the outskirts of the mighty Massif Central, meaning that there will be a fair bit of undulating elevation in most every direction you turn. Truly flat running is therefor hard to come by, and what little there is is still at least one non-trivial climb away from the village. So unless you are an experienced runner, there will be no easy runs here in the traditional sense.

With that disclaimer in place, there is still some great running to be had. And as long as you don’t mind power walking a bit at times, many of the shorter suggestions are certainly doable for runners of all abilities. Just be smart and avoid the worst mid-day heat if you are here in the warm season.

The suggestions are color coded according to the European rating system for alpine ski slopes, which is not meant to suggest that they are correspondingly steep (it is hilly here, but not that hilly). This is simply for the ease of using an established and for many familiar system. For those not familiar, courses will fall into one of four categories:

Easy

Intermediate

Difficult

Very difficult

Ratings will reflect profile, terrain and length, meaning that a longer run can never be green even if it is pancake flat.

The runs listed below link to the corresponding route on Strava, a social network for athletes. There you will find a short description of the run, as well as the option to download a GPX- or TCX-file. I strongly advise downloading these to your running watch or smart phone for navigation during the run, especially if you head up the mountains or into the forests. If you have no setup for this, downloading the free Strava app is probably the easiest way to quickly get directions on your phone.

Happy running!
